Maha Chandi Homam Navaratri 2015

Above is a picture of the Navaratri "Golu" at our house - October 2015. Wife and kids arranged and payed great attention to it!

It is with great humility that this post is written. There was a thought that flashed in the mind about performing a Maha Chandi Homam at our back deck at the house EVERY DAY for the nine days of Navaratri 2015. As you might know, this is quite a big undertaking even when done with the minimum requirements. But the greatest moral of this story is that the Divine Powers above us HELP us in every way possible, when we take on tasks that are inherently good.
To start off, the wife and children were all for it and the people at work were willing for giving time off DURING the work day – this was necessary, because it is very dark in the morning and gets very dark in the evening hours.

Secondly, nine boxes of wood had to be cut and kept ready; that process started on September 20, 2015. The Indian store from where coconuts had to be purchased in a large quantity of about 110 pounds, could not find it for a long time and finally located a supplier in New Jersey that was able to deliver 130 pounds just in time; all those coconuts were cut into the right sizes. The availability of large quantities of "ghee" was getting delayed, but finally came in. All the necessary items for the ahutis were obtained. Flowers were purchased and FedExed from Vivek Flowers in New Jersey.
The deck was swept, kept spick and span because all the Devatas, Devis, Gurus and Rishis would be coming to attend the havan. A portable tent was purchased in case it rained; that became available at Sears at a discounted price of $53.

So many factors had to be in favor – health had to be good with no flu-like symptoms; throat had to be good to enable recitation; the bodily functions of excretion had to co-operate for the five hours of homam every day; there should be good Vak Shuddhi to enable reciting mantras properly; weather had to co-operate with no rains or strong winds.
Kept on praying to Kanchi Maha Periyava and all the Gods and Goddesses to help with all these variables and keep them controlled and enable a nice offering of Homam. For three weeks, the forecast was for rain on Tuesday the 13th of October, the first day and on the Friday, three days later. Amazingly, the rain meant for Tuesday, came and went one day sooner and the rain for Friday came and went the previous mid-night! The tent was not even needed! Winds were under control! Health was good; throat was good; bodily functions were good. All of the rains and winds came in the following week !

Children made the flower malas for Devi; wife made neivedyams every day; there were no problems at work. Kept asking Devi to give some sign that the prayers are reaching HER, by way of a photo or picture at least by way of a cell phone message. On the sixth day, wife gave a picture of Kalika Devi, saying “ I had purchased this from Butala Emporium long ago; forgot to give it to you ! You can have !” That was the trip ticket to cloud nine. That is the picture below -- Kalika Devi -- the Master of Time !

Included HER also in the havan in the last two days! Did not take pictures or videos – was nervous all the time!
It was nothing but bliss! Thank YOU Maha Periyava! Thank YOU Adi Para Shakthi! Thank YOU Lord Shiva!

Om Namaschandikaayai !

About me

My name is Raghavan and since I live in Connecticut, USA, I made the site name CTRaghavan – just like Delhi Ganesh or Malaysia Vasudevan – ( no endorsements here !). I am a grhasta as opposed to a Sanyaasi and hence I have the same responsibilities, burdens, pleasures, good times and rough roads that all grhastas have. I am blessed with a wife and two children; the Supreme has blessed me with a way to earn a good living and I am grateful to all the great people I have met in my life so far that have taught me about life.

My spiritual journey took on great importance in 2013 and hence I decided to write this simple blog. I love humor ( add “u” if you follow Queen’s English ), street philosophy and music. I am now in my mid-fifties – funny how time flies without wings – feels like yesterday I was playing in the streets of Mumbai. I am a Tamil Vadagalai Iyengar by birth and grew up in Mumbai and Rajkot ( Gujarat ) and did college in Trichy and Cincinnati and life has brought me to Connecticut. Love this place, love this earth – Bhooma Devi Namo Namaha.

I hope you like my recitals, articles and presentations. Thank you for taking the time to be here !

Bagalamukhi Sahasranamam Audio

Bagalamukhi Devi is the eighth Dasha Mahavidya and is a very powerful deity. I had the blessing of meeting Swami Divya Chetananandji Maharaj at the beautiful Para Shakthi temple in Michigan, during the Rajagopuram Kumbhabhishekam celebrations in 2015. This temple has been built by the Great Dr. G. Krishna Kumar, Whom I consider as a form of Para Shakthi Devi Herself ! Swami Divya Chetananandji Maharaj is an ardent bhaktha of Devi Bagalamukhi and I was able to speak to Him for about fifteen minutes. Initially of course, I asked Him if I could get mantra deeksha of Bagalamukhi moola mantra. He did not give me that; but told me that even to get a darshan of a Siddha Purusha and Santh, one has to have Divine grace and hence I should be happy.
He told me I should be positive and be happy that if I did not have the grace of Devi, I could not be reciting their Sahasranamams or performing their homams. I reflected and meditated on what the Guruji had said and two days later I called up and said in Hindi: “Guruji, thank you for your advice. Now I am Poorna ( full ); and I have no need for anything; I am happy and contented; thank you for raising my awareness.”

The Bagalamukhi Sahasranama Stotram is a thousand name hymn in praise of Goddess Bagalamukhi and is really beautiful. I must give credit to Kishore, my brother-in-law for providing me this stotram. It gives me joy to listen to it and hopefully you will enjoy it too!

And now the audio: 35 minutes long.

Bagalamukhi Shatanama Stotram Audio

Devi Bagalamukhi is the eighth Dasha Mahavidya and is misunderstood by many people just like Devi Chinnamasta is. Wikipedia article can be found at : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bagalamukhi

Devi Bagalamukhi is known to paralyze enemies. Her moola mantra itself spells out in detail the requests by Her devotee to enable paralyzing the speech, mind and motion of his enemies. That does NOT mean that She can be used to destroy fellow human beings. The keyword in the mantra is “Sarva Dhustanaam” which is loosely translated as “enemies”. The enemies that are referred to here are of an esoteric level. Anything that perturbs your divine peace of mind is an enemy; all the enemies are inside our own selves. The emotions of ego, greed, anger, etc are our real enemies; it is these emotions that have to be controlled and subdued.

Once these enemies are subdued, one can return to a state of mind that is in divine peace. And Devi Bagalamukhi can help a devotee accomplish that. She will provide you the ability to control your tongue, so you speak graceful words; She will provide you the ability to control your anger so you can be in peace with yourself and others and so on.

The Bagalamukhi Shatanama Stotram is a hundred name hymn in praise of Goddess Bagalamukhi and is really beautiful. I must give credit to Kishore, my brother-in-law for providing me this stotram. It gives me joy to listen to it and hopefully you will enjoy it too!

And now the audio: 4 minutes and 12 seconds long.

Kamala Sahasranamam Audio

Kamala Devi, also known as Kamalatmika Devi, is the tantric form of Maha Lakshmi. Her thousand name hymn that we deal with here is an exquisite devotional stotram. One can add “Svaha” at the end of each couplet and use it for homam purposes.

Again, this is from the shlokam sent to me by my brother-in-law and my sincere thanks to him.

Kamala Devi is one of the Dasha Mahavidyas and bestows wealth and prosperity to the upasak and to his family. Wealth includes not only monetary blessings, but also spiritual wealth, good health, etc.

Now I present my audio rendering of Kamala Sahasranamam which is about 32 minutes and 39 seconds long:

I have sliced the pdf of the Sanskrit lyrics available at the link below. You might want to download and print it since it displays two pages at once and is in horizontal view.

Moola mantram for Kamalatmika Devi is "Om Shreem Hreem Shreem Kamale Kamalaalaye Praseedha Praseedha Shreem Hreem Shreem Om Mahalakshmyai Namaha". One needs to add "Svaha" at the end of the moola mantram for Homam purposes. Following is a very short video clip denoting this performed by me and my son on our back deck in mid 2015.:
