Those divine souls that have had an interest in the
Parashurama Sahasranamam, such as Shree Samir Kothari, might also want to consider reciting or listening to
Shree Renuka Devi Sahasranamam dealt with here. This is one powerful thousand
name hymn for Shree Renuka Devi, who is the mother of Sri Parashurama and is
the wife of Sri Jamadagni Rishi. In this hymn presented here, the conversation
is between Shankara and Skandha and is taken from Padma Puranam, as noted in
the last line.
One might want to note that the stotram itself is quite
powerful in the choice of the names describing this magnificent Devi – She is
described as the form of the Vedas, the form of the letters of Sanskrit, the
form of the great sacred rivers, the theertha sthalams ( sacred places ), the
chakras in the body, the feelings of shyness, thirst, hunger, sleep, all mobile
and immobile things – ( Sthaavaram, Jangamam ) and so on. She is pleased when a
devotee either recites or listens to Her hymn ( these are from the stotram and
NOT personal opinions ), offers kumkum, turmeric, sandalwood, performs yagna or
performs vrata.
The “Phalasruthi” or “the fruits and benefits” of reciting
this hymn starts approximately at 31 minutes 21 seconds and goes on until the
end of the hymn – almost ten full minutes long. Some of them include getting
rid of fevers and diseases, removal of poverty, enjoyment of worldly pleasures
and attainment of liberation ( bhukthi, mukthi ), life of a hundred years, elimination
of bad dreams and removal of obstacles. Verse 180 states protection from evil
forces. The section proceeds to note that ( verse 192) if one gives a copy of
this hymn to a Brahmin, it is meritorious; if one simply keeps a copy of this
hymn in their house or dwelling, it is auspicious. Verse 187 states that a
pregnant woman who has problems with health will be cured and a weak fetus
will be strengthened – this is quite powerful. Verse 193 states that one who
desires a male child will get one and one who desires a female child will beget
one. Verse 194 states one who desires knowledge will be given that and one who
desires poesy will get that. Verse 198 states the benefits as eyesight to the
blind and speech to the mute – one might want to note how Sri Muka Kavi, Who
was mute at birth, was cured and became the Acharya of Kama Koti Peetam by the
composition of Sri Muka Pancha Shati – available in this blog. So these are
not figments of one’s imagination. This is just a few verses translated from
the “benefits” section to indicate to the reader the power of this hymn. Then
again, listen or recite simply for the beauty of the hymn and simply out of
love of Sri Renuka Devi !
This is a long hymn.
And now the audio: 41 minutes 1 second long.
( Mobile devices: click download; then play.)NOTE: BECAUSE THIS IS A VERY LARGE FILE ABOUT 38 MEGABYTES, YOU WILL HAVE TO DOWNLOAD AND THEN LISTEN. On mobile devices and some computers, you may get the message -- This file is too large for Google to scan, download anyway? -- You will have to answer "YES" and then listen after download. On some computers, when you hit the play button, if nothing seems to happen, click the Download arrow at the top, click download anyway and then listen. Sorry for the inconvenience -- but this is a big file and praise to Sri Renuka Devi -- Her Grace is magnificent !
There have been some errors in the audio pronunciation as given here:
Verse 67/2nd line: Audio should be “Vanisthitha” not “Vinisthitha”.
Verse 152/1st line: Audio should be “Kalyana” not “Kalyanya”.
Verse 153/1st line: Audio should be “Sarva” not “Sarvam”.
