Mahalakshmi Devi is the Goddess of wealth and prosperity and
singing hymns in praise of Her with devotion is sure to bless the worshipper
with all sorts of wealth, including material wealth, spiritual wealth and good
health. Legend has it that a poor brahmachari approached Swami Vedantadesikan Aachaarya and asked that he be blessed with money so he could get married. Swami Vedanta
Desikan took him inside the temple garbha graham and composed a hymn to
Perundevi Thaayaar ( Mahalakshmi Devi ) and the man became wealthy and got
married.
I came to know of Sri Stuthi when listening to a presentation about how Sri Kanchi Mahaperiyava had talked highly about the Sri Stuthi composed by Sri Vedanta Desika Aachaaryaa. The hymn that Sri Vedanta Desika Aachaaryaa composed is Sri
Stuthi, not to be confused with Sri Suktham. This is really a fantastic set of
Shlokas, the main body of which is in the phenomenal Mandakranda Sanskrit
metre.
I have recited it here for aspirants to follow if they
choose this technique of a reasonable pause between lines; this method will
potentially instill a sense of sanctity in the reciter and hopefully please
Goddess Mahalakshmi!
And now the audio: about 12 minutes 34 seconds long.
