Sri Aditya Hrdayam is a hymn from Sage Valmiki’s Ramayana and is
addressed to Sri Rama by Sage Agastya. The details of this hymn are nicely
detailed in English in the link at the bottom of this post for the Sanskrit
lyrics and is therefore not duplicated here.
In addition to this, there is a really phenomenal talk by
Rajarishi Sri Dr. G. Krishna Kumar of ParaShakthi temple in Michigan about the
subtle meanings of this Aditya Hrdayam. This video is about 37 minutes long and the
link is given at the end of this post.
On a personal experiential note, almost eighteen years ago,
in 1999, worldly duty called for the operation of a complicated chemical system
at the workplace. The sheer complexity of the system with all kinds of toxic
gases and sensitive mechanical devices was unnerving to the mind and
nervousness was at its peak. With no previous experience of any kind and no one
to fall back onto, the mind was completely in emotional disarray. The one
assistant available was also in the same state of mind with no prior experience.
At that time, mother-in-law whose name was Pushpa advised the recitation of
this very same Aditya Hrdayam hymn, just as Sage Agastya advised Sri Rama who
had to battle Ravana. This eliminated the nervousness and provided the courage
to proceed forward with the operation. The results have been so great that the
system is being run to this day nicely.
