Ganga Sahasranamam BDP Audio

At the request of Shri Sameer Kothari, a visitor to this blog, here is the thousand name hymn for Ganga Devi, entitled Ganga Sahasranama Stotram from Brihad Dharma Puranam which is one of the Upa Puranams. There are other versions of Ganga Sahasranamam from other Puranams also. The power of this thousand name hymn can be deciphered from verses 10 and 11, wherein Sri Shuka Muni states that reciting this Ganga Sahasranamam is as powerful as performing a thousand Ashwamedha Yaagams or a hundred Vajapeya yagnas or a hundred Gaya Shraadhdha ceremonial rites; He proceeds to state that Moksha or ultimate salvation itself is within reach with this.
As one proceeds further, the thousand names of Ganga include various forms of Devi such as Kaali Mata, Dhoomavati, Chinnamasta, etc and one can visualize the unification of the various forms of Ambaal. In the “Phalasruthi” portion which deals with the benefits of recitation of the Ganga Sahasranamam, starting from verse 172, Sri Shuka Muni states that reciting or simply listening to this Ganga Sahasranama Stotram provides tremendous “Punya” ( merits ); those desiring wealth will acquire wealth, those desiring a wife will obtain one ( verse 177 ); those desiring children will beget them ( verse 178 ) . He states that this praiseful hymn makes Ganga Devi happy and She bestows boons on to Her devotees.

This is a very nicely flowing hymn and the words are as gracious as Ganga Herself ! An incident during the recording of this hymn in brief: during the final editing session, the software inadvertently skipped to a previously recited point and unknowingly there was a discrepancy that had to be fixed and was taken care of. It felt as though Ganga Devi Herself was guiding through the process !
This is a long hymn. 33.7 MB

And now the audio: 36 minutes 54 seconds long.
( Mobile devices: click download; then play.)

NOTE: BECAUSE THIS IS A VERY LARGE FILE ABOUT 33 MEGABYTES, YOU WILL HAVE TO DOWNLOAD AND THEN LISTEN. On mobile devices and some computers, you may get the message -- This file is too large for Google to scan, download anyway? -- You will have to answer "YES" and then listen after download. On some computers, when you hit the play button, if nothing seems to happen, click the Download arrow at the top, click download anyway and then listen. Sorry for the inconvenience -- but this is a big file and praise to Sri Ganga Devi -- Her Grace is magnificent !

There are three errors in the audio pronunciation as given here:
Verse 69/2nd line: Audio should be “Rakshitri” not “Raakshitri”  : Verse 103/1st   line: Audio should be “Dakshina” not  “Dakshana” : Verse 124/1st  line: Audio should be “Thaapoth” not “Thapoth”.

    1. No permission needed. In one of the Mahapuranams, it is stated explicitly that giving one a copy of a Divine Work is a "Punya" ( merit )..May You Be Peaceful !
