Gayatri Sahasranamam Audio

Towards the end of May 2018, we had made a trip to New Jersey to attend a Radha Kalyanam celebration which included a “Naama Sankeerthanam” by Sri Swaminatha Bhagawathar. Therein, Sri Arunachalam Iyya, a Divine Soul, advised Adiyen to do a Laksha Japa (100,000 repetitions) of the Sacred Gayatri Mantra. This was taken seriously and every day a Sahasrara Gayatri Japa (1,008 repetitions) was taken up. Upon reaching the 100,008 mark, a Sahasra Gayatri Homam was conducted at home, a short 25 second video clip of which is at the bottom of this post. The photo at the top of this post is of Sri Gayatri Devi from our Pooja Room at home.
Incidentally, the very first Puranam Parayanam was taken up by Adiyen in 2014 and that was of Srimad Devi Bhagawatham, comprising 18,000 verses. That was nothing but absolute bliss; in the twelfth Skanda (part), the Gayatri Sahasranamam is covered. Right then, there was an interest in reciting and recording this beautiful 1,008 name hymn for Sri Gayatri Devi, for the benefit of all. Nearly four years later, we are dealing with that beautiful stotram here… ( the seed sown then has now sprouted..). It is a desire to conduct a Gayatri Sahasranama Homam at some point in the future at home using this very stotram.

Here we deal with the thousand and eight names and qualities of Sri Gayatri. As noted above, this hymn is from Srimad Devi Bhagawatham Puranam, Twelfth Skanda, Sixth Chapter. The hymn is delivered by Sriman Narayana to Sri Narada Maharishi, in response to the question of the latter as to the names and qualities of Sri Gayatri Devi which are auspicious and provide the source of Brahmagyaanam and Moksham ( Divine Knowledge and Liberation ).  Brahma is the Rishi, Anushtup is the Chanda and Gayatri is the Devata. The lyrics start with the Sanskrit alphabets A, AA, etc and go on to cover all.
The benefits of listening to or reciting this hymn ( as stated by the Rishi and not a personal opinion ) starts at verse 156 (approximately 24 minutes into the audio) and continues till the end. This hymn is not to be given to anyone indiscriminately (verse 158) and so the very fact that you the visitor is here is by Her Divine Will. Verse 160 states that in any house where these names are written and kept, no cause of fear can creep in and Sri Lakshmi the Goddess of Wealth remains stationed steadily there. Verses 161 and 162 state that these names provide wealth to the needy and liberation to those desirous of the same; diseases get cured and one becomes free of bondages. There is no doubt in the capability of this hymn in removing even the Great Misdeeds.

This is a long hymn about 23 MB.
And now the audio: 25 minutes 40 seconds long.

NOTE: BECAUSE THIS IS A VERY LARGE FILE ABOUT 23MEGABYTES, YOU WILL HAVE TO DOWNLOAD AND THEN LISTEN. On mobile devices and some computers, you may get the message -- This file is too large for Google to scan, download anyway? -- You will have to answer "YES" and then listen after download. On some computers, when you hit the play button, if nothing seems to happen, click the Download arrow at the top, click download anyway and then listen. Sorry for the inconvenience -- but this is a big file and praise  to Sri Gayatri Devi -- Her Grace is magnificent !

The lyrics scanned and copied from the original Srimad Devi Bhagawatham Puranam ( with English translation by Swami Vijnanananda )can be found at the following link for easy reference.

There are a couple of printing errors in the printed sheets as noted below. The audio is correct.
Verse 44 Line 2: “Dharmadhaa Dhanadhaa” should be “Gharmadhaa Ghanadhaa”
Verse 49 Line 1: “Chowraa na Chandikaa” should be “Chowraa cha Chandikaa”
Verse 95 Line 2: “Paarijaataasumapriyaa” should be “Paarijaata Kusumapriyaa” – Audio also in error
Verse 106 Line 1: “Panchamaatraamika” should be “Panchamaatraathmika”
Verse 149 Line 1: “Shangukhapriyakaarini” should be “Shanmukhapriyakaarini”

Om Sri Gayatri Devi Namo Namaha !!
