Brief:
Maitreya asks ParaShara to expound the story of King Bharata and how he was
re-born as a Brahmana and the subsequent events. ParaShara answers that while
King Bharata had resigned to the forest, once he sees a pregnant doe that gave
birth from the fear of loud noises heard; the doe slips and is carried away by
the waters. Bharata takes pity on the young fawn and slowly develops attachment
toward it. Eventually, after his death, Bharata is reborn as a deer but atoned
for having developed attachment and being born as an animal. Then again after
death, he is re-born as a Brahmana, but is not versed in the Vedas and remains
as a wandering disheveled Brahmana. He ends up being one of the palanquin
bearers of the King of Sauvira, but being slow, he is yelled at by the King. To
this, the Brahmana gives a phenomenal philosophical discourse.
Book 2 Ch 14: 33 Verses: 4 minutes 46 seconds: Size: 4 MB
Brief: Impressed with the discourse of the Brahmana, the
King of Sauvira states he was on his way to see Kapila Maharishi to get
knowledge, but now wants to know from the Brahmana more; specifically what is
the best end to pursue. To this the Brahmana gives a phenomenal discourse that
summarizes that anything transient is worthless and the pure understanding of the
oneness of the all-pervading soul is the only end worth pursuing.

The
Brahmana continues to the King of Sauvira the story of Rbhu and Nidaga, the
former being the son of Brahma and the latter the son of Rishi Pulastya. Once
when Rbhu went to Nidaga’s house, he is served food by the latter. Upon
questioning whether he was satisfied and contented with the food and wherefrom
had he come and whereto was he headed, Rbhu Rishi gives a phenomenal set of
answers that provide Divine knowledge.
Book 2 Ch 16: 25 Verses: 4 minutes 22 seconds: Size: 4 MB
Brief: After another thousand years, Rbhu and Nidaga meet
again at a celebration where the King on an elephant was passing through.
Another philosophical exchange takes place between the two.
