Venkatesha Sahasranamam Audio

Most of us are familiar with Sri Venkatesha Suprabhatam; especially the rendering of the same by Smt. M.S. Subbalakshmi. However, here we deal with the Venkatesha Sahasranama Stotram dealing with the thousand names and qualities of Sri Vishnu in the form of Sri Venkatesha. As one listens to the hymn, the various Divine deeds of Sri Krishna, Sri Narasimha, etc can be found embedded along with names of several Parivaara Devathas ( family of Deities ) and Maharishis.

The benefits of listening to or reciting this hymn starts at verse 170 (31 minutes 18 seconds into the audio) and continues till the end. By simply listening to this, several blemishes get cleaned up and diseases get cured (verse 171); one’s enemies get overpowered and bad planetary afflictions and effects of evil spirits get removed (verse 173 ); one desirous of education and knowledge and one desirous of wealth acquires them (verse 174); one who desires progeny gets the same and one wanting debatory success in the assembly of men succeeds (verse 175). One who worships Sri Venkateshwara with this hymn using Tulasi leaves ends up eventually seeing the Lord Who lives in Vaikuntha. (verse 176); one who listens to / recites this hymn even once a month gets poverty removed from his life and thrice a month is provided great fortunes (verse 180). Verse 182 states that this hymn has the power to calm a tumultuous mind and strengthens it and after providing a person a long disease free life ends up offering mukthi.

Purushottama Sahasranamam Audio

At the request of Shree Siddharth Achyuthan, a visitor to this blog, here is the audio for Purushottama Sahasranamam. This thousand name / qualities hymn was composed by Shree Vallabhacharya. The story goes that Shri Gopinathji, the elder son of Shri Vallabhacharya was so much attached to Bhagawatha Puranam that he would eat food only after reciting the entire Puranam every time; this resulted in his taking food only every so many days. Note that this happened when Shri Gopinathji was less than twenty five years old ! Concerned about this, the father composed this very hymn that extracts the thousand names and qualities from Srimad Bhagawatham and advised the son that simply reciting this would be tantamount to reciting the entire Puranam !!

Now, Srimad Bhagawatham is very very beautiful, but is comprised of 18,000 verses; Adiyen has recited but once. Imagine getting the same benefit by simply listening to or reciting the Purushottama Sahasranama Stotram in about 50 minutes !! That is how powerful this hymn is. It gets better. In the recitation here, there are 12 sections (Skandas). The proper procedure is to either listen (Shravana Vratam) or recite all the 12 sections at once – that will take 50 minutes; but if one does not have time or cannot do in one sitting, one can listen or recite at least one section (Skanda) in one sitting; the timings and start/stop times in the audio for each section (Skanda) are given below; some are less than 3 minutes long !! It is felt that everyone can afford to commit such short times for the glory of Sri Vishnu; and if one listens to 3 Skandas per day, in 4 days the whole vratam is completed !! If this is not possible, even listening to a couple of lines is better than nothing at all.
