The Narasimha avataram of Lord Vishnu is the most powerful
manifestation out of the ten avatarams and represents bursts of intense energy.
Of the ten avatarams the Narasimha avataram has the shortest span in terms of
time. This form had a specific targeted goal of destroying
the asura Hiranyakashipu and confirming the great devotee Prahlada’s conviction that
Vishnu WILL protect the devotee even against all odds. This statement of
receiving protection “against all odds” was conveyed by a modern real life
incident narrated by Sri Vijayalakshmi Ammal from Chennai, India, who is the mother
of our family friend Suja who lives close by. A friend of Sri Vijayalaskshmi
Ammal who was part of a group that recited Sri Narayaneeyam regularly was diagnosed
with a form of deadly severe psoriasis; the disease had progressed to severe
incurable levels and apparently the doctors had given her a maximum of three
months to live. This lady got a dream one night of Lord Narasimha asking her to
bring a comb which she does and Lord Narasimha combs her entire body and then
disappears from the dream. The very next day her symptoms started disappearing
and within a week she shows up at the recital group completely cured. That is
the power of Lord Narasimha.
Adiyen (the humble servant here) was sitting one evening
across from wife Srimathy and asking questions regarding the Narasimha temple
at Naamakkal, Tamil Nadu, which she had visited with the children; in the
conversation, she mentioned that she was NOT able to buy a photo of Him at the
temple stores there and how much she wanted a photo. Just the very next day,
there was a photo of Lord Narasimha, Sri Namagiri Thaayaar and Sri Hanuman (
all in the same frame ) that was received in the mail, sent by brother-in-law Kishore.
It was so moving that we worship them in our Pooja room. That is the power of
Lord Narasimha. Subsequently, the entire family has visited the Narasimha
temple in Naamakkal. This is an ancient temple and one can “feel” the power of
the Lord there.
Many of the great saints in India have been Narasimha upasakas.
He represents high levels of intense powerful energy and can ward off all evils
and dangers from affecting the devotee. During worship of Lord Narasimha one
needs to maintain as much cleanliness (“madi”) and respect and devotion as
possible. After the destruction of Hiranyakashipu, Lord Narasimha could be calmed
down only by Goddess Pratyangira Devi. The Lakshmi Narasimha form is calmer
than the form without Lakshmi. In either case, devotion to Lord Narasimha
pretty much guarantees safety and well-being for the devotee and can help one
cross difficult times with greater ease.
The Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Sahasranamavali in audio form is
rare to be found and IS one POWERFUL, ENERGY LADEN stotram. As before, in order to get the maximum physical effect
and “feeling”, one is STRONGLY recommended to put on headphones and listen with
the volume level fairly high – as opposed to hearing on low volume. One might
note that in this recitation, the rhythm followed is 8 names/qualities on high
followed by 8 names/qualities on low. The names and qualities will seem quite
potent right from the start and simply stay on high energy throughout, describing
His powerful teeth, nails, loud laughs, thousand heads, thousand tongues, fiery
form, etc. If one forms a mental image of Lord Narasimha ready to tear apart
and destroy the enemical forces while listening to this hymn, the power and
protective capacity of Lord Narasimha CAN be felt – there is no doubt in this.
This is a long hymn. 23 MB
And now the audio: 25 minutes 9 seconds long.
